- We have great benefits
- We are well funded, and generating revenue
- We are located in beautiful Torrance, CA and just moved into a new large hangar facility
- We are open to Hybrid work
Role Overview:
The EMI/EMC Test Engineer will play a key role in the validation of Salient Motion’s power electronics and motor drive systems. You will work hands-on with engineering teams to design, plan, and execute EMI/EMC tests and mitigation strategies to meet the rigorous electromagnetic compatibility standards required by our aerospace customers and regulatory bodies. You will also be responsible for maintaining and calibrating Salient Motion’s in-house EMI/EMC test chambers and equipment.
What you'll do:
- Develop and execute EMI/EMC test plans per RTCA DO-160G and customer-specific standards (Boeing D6-16050, Airbus ABD0100).
- Work with internal teams and external test labs to conduct EMI/EMC pre-compliance and compliance testing of power supplies, BLDC motor controllers, and actuator systems.
- Maintain Salient Motion’s in-house EMI/EMC test infrastructure, including test chambers, instrumentation, and calibration schedules.
- Define system-level and board-level EMC design guidelines to ensure early design compliance.
- Design and review PCB layouts and harnesses with a focus on signal integrity, grounding, shielding, and filtering for EMC robustness.
- Own EMC test documentation including test plans, test procedures, and test reports for FAA certification and OEM compliance.
- Support root cause analysis and mitigation of EMI issues across conducted and radiated emissions and susceptibility.
- Collaborate with hardware, systems, and compliance engineers to establish and trace verification activities to system-level requirements.
- Provide technical input into component selection and enclosure design to optimize EMC performance.
- Participate in Design Assurance Level (DAL) assessments for DO-160G compliance and contribute to safety and certification documentation.
- Stay current with evolving industry standards and test methodologies for aerospace EMI/EMC.
What you need:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field.
- 5+ years of experience in EMI/EMC testing, preferably in the aerospace or defense industry.
- Deep understanding of DO-160G, Boeing, and Airbus EMC test standards.
- Experience testing power electronics, switched-mode power supplies (SMPS), and 3-phase motor controllers.
- Proficient with EMI/EMC test equipment (spectrum analyzers, LISNs, TEM/GTEM cells, RF amplifiers, etc.).
- Hands-on experience maintaining EMI/EMC test setups, including anechoic chambers, test fixtures, and calibration protocols.
- Working knowledge of conducted/radiated emissions and susceptibility, transient immunity, ESD, and lightning protection.
- Ability to lead test campaigns independently and write detailed technical reports.
- Familiarity with regulatory compliance documentation for FAA and EASA certification programs.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Nice to haves:
- Experience with aerospace qualification programs and ARP4754A/B or DO-254 processes.
- Background in power integrity, signal integrity, and noise modeling techniques.
- Experience working with motor drives, actuators, or electromechanical systems in safety-critical environments.
- Familiarity with simulation tools (e.g., SPICE, HFSS, CST) for EMC analysis.
- Hands-on experience with shielded enclosures and EMI filters.
